What is the working principle of an Engler Viscometer?
The resistance that occurs between the molecules of a liquid when it is subjected to an external force is called viscosity. Ensign viscosity is the ratio of the time required for a specimen to flow 200 ml from an Ensign viscometer at a given temperature to the time required for distilled water to flow the same volume at 20°C (i.e., the water value of the viscometer). The specimen outflow should become a continuous line during the experiment. The Ensign viscosity at temperature T is expressed by the symbol Et; the time (in seconds) required for the specimen to flow out of 200 ml from the viscometer at the test temperature T is expressed by Jt; the water value of the viscometer (in seconds) is expressed by K20.
The formula is as follows: Et = Jt/K20 Unit: Condition Degree
What equipment is required for Engler viscometer ?
1,Approved by the test and accompanied by a certificate of verification of the graduation value of not more than 0.2 ºC mercury thermometer.
2. A secondary stopwatch or timer with a graduation value of not more than 0.1 s, which has been tested and approved and comes with a certificate of approval.
3. A 200 cm3 receiving bottle with a certificate of conformity.
4, (2 ~ 5) cm3 pipette, glass beaker, glass rod, etc..
5,New distilled water, chromic acid wash, petrol, alcohol, petroleum ether and so on.
What are the common problems?
Due to improper use of new instruments, the problem of high water value will also occur. According to our experience, the reason for the inaccurate water value is mainly caused by improper operation. The problems in this operation mainly include the following aspects:
1. Cleaning of instruments
2. Water purification
3. Adjustment of sample injection volume
4. The influence of small water droplets on the wall
5. Operation technology
In addition to the above-mentioned reasons, factors such as temperature control and level adjustment of the instrument, vibration of the instrument when lifting the cork, and burrs at both ends of the outflow tube will cause large test errors when measuring the sample.
