The resistance among liquid molecules under outside force is viscosity. The Engler viscosity is the time ratio between a sample flowing out 200 ml from Engler viscometer under a certain temperature (asphalt sample volume is 50 ml) and distilled water flowing out the same volume from Engler viscometer at 20 ºC (the water value of viscometer). The sample should flow like a thread during test. The Engler viscosity at temperature T can be indicated as Et. The time for a sample flowing out 200 ml (50 ml for asphalt sample) from Engler viscometer can be indicated as Jt. The water value of viscometer can be indicated as K20 (K25 for asphalt sample).
The calculation equation is as follows:
Et= Jt/K20 Unit: Engler viscosity degree
For asphalt sample:
Et= Jt/K25 Unit: Engler viscosity degree
K25: The water value of viscometer at 25 ºC. You can calculate it by the equation:
K25=0.224×K20.
