What is an ICP?
An ICP is an Inductively Coupled Plasma by using high temperature argon to analyze element concentrations in liquid solutions. The College's ICP is an Optical Emission System (OES) and uses the light emission from the high temperature excitation of the atoms to determine their concentration. Applications include plant elemental analysis, soil extracts, silicon chip analysis, nanoparticles, rock fusions to name just a few. Here is  a list of usable elements with detection limits.

How to start the maintenance of inductively coupled plasma spectrometer
Since it is a precise calculation, the maintenance of the instrument should start from the following points.
1. environment
The instrument requires the general room temperature to be maintained at a fixed temperature between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius, and the temperature change should be less than ±1 degrees Celsius. The indoor humidity should be less than 70%, preferably controlled between 45% and 60%, and equipped with an air purification device.
2. power supply lines
In order to ensure the safe operation of the ICP instrument, the power supply line must have a large enough capacity, otherwise the line voltage will be too large when the instrument is running, which will affect the life of the instrument.
3. Dustproof
The laboratory needs to use an exhaust fan to remove the heat of the instrument and the toxic gas generated during work. The pressure difference between the laboratory and the outside will form, and the laboratory will generate negative pressure. The outdoor air containing a lot of dust will flow into the room from the gaps in the doors and windows, and a large amount of air will accumulate on various parts of the instrument.
4. Maintenance of the nebulizer
Regular cleaning is required, especially after measuring high-salt solutions, salt will accumulate on the top of the nebulizer and the nozzle of the torch, causing the aerosol channel to be blocked, which often reflects a decrease in the measurement intensity and an increase in the reflected power of the instrument. Dust or carbon deposits on the torch will affect the ignition of the plasma torch and keep it stable, and also affect the reflection power. Therefore, it should be washed with acid and water regularly, and then rinsed with absolute ethanol and dried, and the sampling system and torch should be kept clean.
5. Minimize the number of starts and stops during use
Do not turn on frequently in the same period of time. Frequent turning on of the instrument may cause damage. This is because the instantaneous current of the instrument is much higher than the current in normal operation each time the instrument is turned on. The instantaneous pulse impact may easily cause damage to the power tube, vacuum capacitor and other chips.
