ISO5658 IMO Spread of Flame Tester Flame Spread Testing Equipment

 Introduction:

 IMO Spread of Flame Tester is used to evaluate combustion characteristics of building materials and ship materials. It measures the spread rate of flame, the flame for ignition by distances, CFE (Critical Flux at Extinguishment), and total heat release.

This test method originated from ISO 5658-2 (Reaction to fire tests-Spread of flame- Part 2 Lateral spread on building products in vertical configuration) and measures combustion characteristics of the vertical specimen (155 mmX800 mm). 

The specimen is exposed to the reasonable radiant heat field and is measured by a thermocouple for exhaust gas calibrated through the progress of combustion as a unit of mV. 

The results are expressed in terms of the flame spread distance/time history, the flame front velocity versus heat flux, the critical heat flux at extinguishment, and the average heat for sustained burning. Total heat release (kW) and so on.
