What is a Relay Time Calibrator?

 

A relay time calibrator is a specialized device used to calibrate and verify the timing accuracy of relays, particularly those used in protective relay systems. It is designed to ensure that relays operate within specified time intervals, accurately responding to fault conditions and initiating the appropriate protective actions.

How Does a Relay Time Calibrator Work?

 

1. A time relay uses an electromagnet to operate a set of contacts, or it may be a solid state time relay and use semiconductors (electronic circuitry).
2. When the time relay is activated, the electromagnet is energized, and the contacts are closed.
3. Once the time delay has elapsed, the relay will carry out the event and then return to its original state, waiting to be activated again.
4. After a pre-determined amount of time has elapsed, the electromagnet is de-energized, and the contacts are opened.
