Operational Principle:
Reaction of Karl Fischer Reagent and water is:
I2+SO2+3C5H5N+H2O--2C5H5N·HI+C5H5N·SO3 ...( 1 )
C5H5N·SO3+CH3OH--C5H5N·HSO4CH3 ...( 2 )
The reagent solution is mixed of iodine, pyridine, and methanol. Rest on the Faraday's law that the iodine which forms through the electrolysis on the anode has the direction proportion with electric charge quantity. The chemical formula is:
2I--2e--I2...(3)
From the formula 3, the iodine's molecule quantity equals to the water's. That's to see, according to the consumption of the iodine, we can know the water content of the test sample. The instrument adopts Faradic current automatic control system, can easily adjusts the Faradaic current, most to 200mA.
