The test theory of the cone calorimeter is based on the fact that the number of calories burned is proportional to the amount of oxygen burned. Each 1KG of oxygen burned will produce 13.1m /kg of gas. The emission time of the test gas, ignition time, oxygen consumption rate, CO, CO2 generation rate, and gas flow will be measured.

Features of Cone Calorimeter
1. Integrated body and 19" analysis rack, 15" touch screen panel type PC for the whole control and automatic testing
2. Conical Heater - is wound in the form of a truncated cone, rated 5000 W at 230 V with a heat output of 100 kW/m2.
3. Facility for testing horizontally or vertically orientated specimens
4. Temperature control by the use of 3-type K thermocouples and a 3-term (PID) temperature controller.
5. Auto Split Shutter automatically opened to transmit radiation to the sample, Automatic Spark Igniter to facilitate measurement of ignition time
6. Specimen Holders - for specimens 100mm x 100mm up to 50mm thick, in the horizontal and vertical orientation.
7. Load Cell - mass measurements are conducted via a strain gauge load cell with an accuracy of 0.1g. Fitted with a quick electronic tare facility and mechanical stops to avoid movement damage, giving stable results, and long life.
8. Exhaust System - manufactured from stainless steel for long life. This comprises, a hood, gas sampling ring probe, exhaust fan (with adjustable flow controls from 0-50g/s, at a resolution of at least 0.1g/s), and an orifice plate flow measurement (thermocouple and differential pressure transducer). Normal operation is at a nominal 24 l/s.
9. Gas feed unit, Model SCC-S, including 1 gas path, condensate monitor, pump, and flow controller with needle valve Peltier cooler and condensate pump. SCC-S can remove water automatically.
10. Smoke Obscuration - measured with a laser system, using photodiodes, and a 0.5 mW Helium-Neon laser, with main and reference (compensating) photodetectors. Supplied with alignment cradle and 0.3, 0.8 neutral density filters for calibration.
11. Medtherm Heat Flux Meter - for setting the irradiance level at the surface of the specimens, the range from 0-100KW/m2.
12. Provide the Self circulation cooling water to cool the heat flux meter, without External tap water.
13. Calibration Burner - to calibrate the rate of heat release measured by the apparatus using methane of 99.5% purity.
14. Methane MFC, to control the flow rate of Methane automatically.
15. OMRON PLC to control all movement such as Split Shutter, Spark Igniter, etc.
16. DAQ(Data Acquisition)Program controllable with the touch screen panel PC
