A Digital Earth Resistance Tester is a device used to measure the resistance of the earth used in power circuits, telecommunications, railway electrification, and other electrical installations. It's also used to measure ground resistivity. The device is important for ensuring a reliable connection to the earth, especially in the event of a lightning strike or utility overvoltage, where it provides a safe path for current to earth.

Working Principle

The DC/AC converter in the machine converts DC into AC low frequency constant current, which is looped through the auxiliary grounding pole C and the measured object E. The AC voltage drop on the measured object is generated through the auxiliary grounding pole P and sent to the AC amplifier for amplification. The DUT generates an AC voltage drop, which is amplified by an AC amplifier via the auxiliary grounding pole P, and then detected and sent to the meter head for display. With the help of a multiplier switch, three different limits can be obtained: 0-2Ω, 0-20Ω, 0-200Ω.

Measurement and Maintenance

1. When measuring the grounding resistance, be sure to disconnect the electrical equipment from the power supply connection point. In the measurement of less than 1 Ω grounding resistance, should be connected to the grounding body with a special wire, C2 in the outside P2 in the inside (as shown in the figure):
2. When measuring the grounding resistance, it is best to repeat the measurement in different directions 3-4 times, and take the average value.
3. Measurement of large grounding network grounding resistance, can not be measured in accordance with the general wiring, can refer to the ammeter, voltmeter measurement method in the provisions of the selected buried insertion point.
4. If the test circuit is not accessible or over-range, the meter head displays "1", indicating overflow, you should check whether the test circuit is well connected or over-range.
5. When the battery voltage of the meter is lower than 7.2V, the meter head shows undervoltage symbol "←", indicating that the battery voltage is insufficient, at this time, you should plug in the power cord from the AC power supply or open the back cover of the instrument to replace the dry batteries (6 sections of No. 5 dry batteries).
6. If rechargeable batteries are used, they can be directly plugged into the power cord to be charged by the instrument, and the charging time is generally not less than 8 hours.
7. When storing, pay attention to the ambient temperature and humidity. Put in a dry and ventilated place, avoid moisture, prevent acid, alkali and corrosive gases. Do not rain, sun exposure, fall.
