Automatic Marshall Stability Tester
Marshall Stability Test Equipment is used by highway departments, contractors, engineers, testing laboratories and other government agencies to test the stability of bituminous samples. It is used for measurement of resistance to plastic flow of cylindrical specimens of bituminous paving mixture loaded on the lateral surface.
The machine can provide measurement data for use with hot mixture containing asphalt or tar and aggregate up to 25.4mm maximum size. The equipment comprises a bench top loading frame with a screw-driven adjustable crosshead.
- The marshall stability test machine comprises of a robust, compact two column bench type compression frame with adjustable upper cross beam. Motor, worm gear system .
- The samples were ready for testing once they reached room temperature. Testing should be completed within 24 hours of compaction.
- Specimens prepared with bitumen, cement, tar, or tar rubber are brought to the specified temperature by immersing them in a water bath for 30 to 40 minutes or in an oven for 120 to 130 minutes.
- Thoroughly clean the inner surfaces of the guide rod and test head section prior to testing. Lubricate the guide rod so that the upper test head section slides freely on it.
- Remove the specimen from the water bath, oven, or conditioned bath and place it in the lower section of the test head. Place the upper section of the test head on the specimen and place the completed assembly in place in the loader.
- Hold the flow meter sleeve securely on the upper section of the test head while applying the test load.
- The time taken from the removal of the test specimen from the water bath to the determination of the final load shall not exceed 30 s.
- The load is applied to the specimen by a constant rate of motion of the loading jack or loading head until the gauge is released or the load begins to decrease.
