Difference Between Open Cup and Closed Cup Flash Point
Different uses
1. Open flash point: Mostly used for lubricating oil and heavy petroleum products. Because when the open-door cup method is used for determination, the vapor formed after the petroleum product is heated continues to flow.
2. Closed flash point: It is used for light petroleum products with high evaporability, such as solvent oil, kerosene, etc. Since the measurement conditions are similar to the actual storage and use conditions of light oil products, it can be used as the basis for fire safety control indicators.
Different measurement methods
1. Open flash point: The oil test is heated in an open cup. The evaporated oil vapor can diffuse freely into the air and is not easy to accumulate to reach the concentration of the lower explosion limit.
2. Closed flash point: The test oil is heated in a closed oil cup, and the cup lid is only opened at the moment of ignition.
What are the precautions for asphalt flash point and fire point testers?
1. The Flash Point & Fire Point Apparatus should be used in a non-corrosive environment.
2. When replacing specimens, the oil cup must be cleaned.
3. There should be no oil on the thermometer, so as not to affect the detection sensitivity.
4. During the test, do not touch the ignition head, oil cup and surrounding high-temperature parts to avoid burns.
5. The instrument should be allowed to cool down before performing the next test.
6. Glass thermometers are fragile, please store them properly.
7. please check the aging of the latex tube frequently and pay attention to gas safety
1.Clean the test cup with an appropriate solvent to remove any deposits;
2.Assemble and support the apparatus.
3. Insert the thermometer of high or low range as per requirement in a vertical position .It should be positioned at a point halfway between the center and side of the cup on diameter perpendicular to the arc of the sweep of the test flame.
4. Heat the bitumen to a temperature not more than 100 degrees Celsius
5. Pour the hot bitumen to fill the test cup up to the filling mark. Light the test flame and adjust it.
6. Light the test flame and adjust it to a diameter of 3.2 to 4.8 mm.
7. Start application of the test flame when the temperature is at least 28 degrees Celsius below the expected Flashpoint. Pass the flame in one direction first, then in the opposite direction, the time spent in passing the test flame across the cup should be about one second.
8. When a flash fire appears at any point on the surface of the material in the cup, note the temperature on the thermometer and record it as a flashpoint.
