Series Oil-Type HV Testing Equipment Transformer AC DC Hipot Tester
Product Description
Transformer AC DC Hipot Tester is suitable for power systems. It can perform insulation strength tests on high-voltage equipment such as power cables, power transformers, switch cabinets, etc. at power frequency or DC high voltage, find insulation defects, and measure withstand overvoltage. It can be divided into dry type, oil-immersed type, and gas-filled type high-voltage transformers.

Different Types of High Voltage Test Transformers
1. Oil-immersed Transformer:
* This type of transformer uses insulating oil as the main insulating and cooling medium.
* Oil-immersed transformers are usually used for higher voltage levels and larger capacities.
* Their cores and windings are immersed in oil, which also acts as a heat sink.
Oil-type transformers are relatively simple to maintain and have low costs, but oil aging and possible leakage problems need to be considered.
2. Dry-Type Transformer:
* Dry-type transformers do not use oil or other liquids as insulating media, but use dry insulating materials such as epoxy resin, cellulose materials, or vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) treated insulating paper.
* They are suitable for occasions where space is limited or good fire resistance is required.
* The maintenance cost of dry-type transformers may be higher than that of oil-type transformers, but they have advantages in safety and reliability.
3. Gas-Filled Transformer:
* Gas-Filled transformers use gas, usually nitrogen or sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), as an insulating and/or cooling medium.
* SF6 gas has excellent insulation properties and thermal conductivity and is commonly used in high-voltage and ultra-high-voltage transformers.
* Gas-filled transformers can be designed as fully enclosed switchgear (GIS), suitable for urban environments and underground installations.
Applications
1. Oil-immersed test transformer has the characteristics of low cost, cheap price and easy maintenance.
2. The silicon steel sheets of the oil-immersed transformer have been immersed in oil for a long time, and the oil can penetrate into them. The transformer oil is elastic and plays a buffering role, so the noise of the oil-immersed transformer is small.
3. It has a wide range of applications and can be used for AC, AC-DC, AC cascade, and AC-DC cascade.
4. If there are special specifications, we can also design and produce according to the parameters and requirements provided by the user to meet the needs of the user.
The step-by-step process for hipot testing includes the following:
- Only electrically qualified workers may perform this testing.
- Open circuit breakers or switches to isolate the circuit or cable that will be hi-pot tested.
- Confirm that all equipment or cable that is not to be tested is isolated from the circuit under test.
- The limited approach boundary for this hi-pot procedure at 1000 volts is 5 ft. (1.53m) so place barriers around the terminations of cables and equipment under test to prevent unqualified persons from crossing this boundary.
- Connect the ground lead of the HIPOT Tester to a suitable building ground or grounding electrode conductor. Attach the high voltage lead to one of the isolated circuit phase conductors.
- Switch on the HIPOT Tester. Set the meter to 1000 Volts or pre-decide DC Voltage. Push the "Test" button on the meter and after one minute observe the resistance reading. Record the reading for reference.
- At the end of the one-minute test, switch the HIPOT Tester from the high potential test mode to the voltage measuring mode to confirm that the circuit phase conductor and voltage of HIPOT Tester are now reading zero volts.
- Repeat this test procedure for all circuit phase conductors testing each phase to ground and each phase to each phase.
- When testing is completed, disconnect the HIPOT Tester from the circuits under test and confirm that the circuits are clear to be re-connected and re-energized.
- To pass the unit or cable under test must be exposed to a minimum stress of pre-decide voltage for 1 minute without any indication of breakdown. For equipment with a total area less than 0.1 m2, the insulation resistance shall not be less than 400 MΩ. For equipment with a total area larger than 0.1 m2, the measured insulation resistance times the area of the module shall not be less than 40 MΩ⋅m2.
