Automatic Ring and Ball Test and Softening Point of Bitumen Tester with 4 Sample Positioins
The ring and ball method is suitable for determining the softening point of asphalt materials (petroleum asphalt, coal tar pitch, polymer modified asphalt and emulsified asphalt evaporation residue, etc.) with a softening point of 30-157 °C. When the softening point is 30-80°C, use distilled water as the heating medium, and when the softening point is 80-157°C, use glycerin as the heating medium. The softening point of road petroleum asphalt cannot be higher than 80°C, but for some polymer modified asphalt, construction petroleum asphalt, etc., the softening point may be higher than 80°C, and the glycerin bath test should be used.
1 Prepare two or four samples according to the requirements of the preparation work and place the samples in the sample ring.
2 Loosen the upper bracket fixing nut and gently lift the upper bracket upwards, turn it 180° and place it downwards on the special bracket
3 Carefully place the two or four sample rings into the two or four sample ring holes on the middle plate respectively.
4 Use tweezers to cover the two or four steel ball petitioner on the two or four sample rings, and place the two or four steel balls in the center of the sample rings.
Note: The preparation and placement of the sample is the key step for the success of the softening point test and the accuracy of the test results. It must be carefully operated in strict accordance with the requirements of the relevant national standards!
5 Put about 700mL of distilled water or glycerin into the beaker, the liquid level is slightly lower than the depth mark on the column.
6. Place the magnetic stir bar in the center of the bottom of the beaker.
7. Gently lift up the upper support with two sample rings, turn it 180°, gently put it back into the beaker, and tighten the fixing nut of the upper support.
8. Insert the temperature sensor wire plug into the socket of the control body.
9 Put the temperature sensor probe into the middle hole of the middle plate of the tester.
10 Plug in the power cord, pay attention to the grounding end of the power cord should be well grounded.
