The dynamic viscosity of asphalt (60ºC) is a kind of working viscosity of the material in the most unfavorable period of high temperature in summer, and the higher the viscosity, the better the stability. Asphalt with high viscosity produces small shear deformation under load, good elastic recovery performance and small residual permanent plastic deformation, which reflects the enhanced resistance to rutting on the road surface.

On the one hand, the high viscosity means that the asphalt has a large molecular weight, high content of asphaltene and gum, so that the content of asphaltenic acid and asphaltenic anhydride can produce a better adsorption effect with aggregates. On the other hand, the asphalt film formed by the action of asphalt with high viscosity and aggregate is thicker and the strength of asphalt film is also larger. The ability to resist water damage and traffic load is also strong, so the viscosity of the asphalt is large and the adhesion is good.
