ASTM D1298 Petroleum Products Density Tester Density Meter for the Heavy Petroleum Industry
Petroleum density tester is a density measuring instrument which combines modern microelectronic technology and Archimedes principle. Petroleum is a mixture of various hydrocarbons, which are usually less dense than water, and the unprocessed oil extracted from oil fields is called crude oil. Petroleum products (including liquid and solid products) generally refer to the various products obtained from petroleum processing by refineries.
Why do we measure the density of oil?
What is the importance of oil density tester to measure oil density?
1. Density is an important quality index of petroleum products, such as jet fuel, the density index is very strict, the density value of No. 1 and No. 2 products is 775kg/m3, while the density value of No. 3 products is 830 kg/m3, and the density value of No. 4 products is 750 kg/m3.
2. The composition of petroleum products can be judged by the density value. For example, the density of naphthene is higher than that of alkane, and the density of aromatic hydrocarbon is higher than that of naphthene, so the composition of petroleum products and the type of crude oil can be judged to a certain extent according to the density.
3. In the oil trade, it is divided into light oil, medium oil and heavy oil according to the size of the density. The price of light oil is higher while the price of heavy oil is lower. Therefore, the density is one of the decisive parameters of crude oil classification.
