1. What is the penetration test for asphalt?
Penetration test of Bitumen determines the hardness or softness of bitumen by measuring the depth in millimeter to which a standard loaded needle will penetrate vertically in five seconds while the temperature of the bitumen sample is maintained at 25 C.Also, the Penetration test of bitumen is used to measure the consistency of bitumen.This test is applied almost exclusively to bitumen. For Tars, cutbacks and emulsions other consistency tests are used.
2. What are the applications of penetration test of bitumen?
The penetration test is carried out to know the hardness or softness of bitumen used in road construction by measuring the distance in tenths of a millimeter to which a standard needle will penetrate vertically into a sample of bitumen under the stipulated condition of temperature, time and loading.
3. How do you calculate penetration value of bitumen?
It is the vertical distance traversed or penetrated by the point of a standard needle into the bituminous material under specific conditions of load, time and temperature. This distance is measured in one-tenth of a millimeter. Example: Bitumen grade 80/100 indicates the penetration value of bitumen from 8 mm to 10 mm.
4. Why is penetration testing important in asphalt?
The penetration test is used as a measure of consistency. Higher values of penetration indicate softer consistency. The test is widely used all over the world for classifying bituminous materials into different grades
1. The instrument is controlled by a computer integrated industrial computer, which can be connected to the platform to upload data.
2. The high-precision digital display meter measures the penetration value and outputs the data synchronously.
3. The lifting mechanism adopts a ball screw module, which is novel in design and stable in transmission. The stepping motor drives the test head to move vertically at 4 different speeds, and is equipped with a light source for magnifying observation.
4. The drop time of the needle is selectable with a time setting and is controlled by an electromagnetic release mechanism.
5. During operation, just press the "count" button to complete the needle insertion procedure, and the average value of 3 times is displayed.
