Easy-to-Carry Transformer Oil Dissolved Gas Analyzer Chromatography Analyzer Digital Tester
What is dissolved gas analysis in transformers

Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) is a technique used to monitor the condition of transformers. It involves measuring the gases dissolved in transformer oil to identify any potential issues with the transformer.

Transformers generate gases as a result of normal operation and aging, and these gases can indicate various types of faults or problems. For example, the presence of certain gases, such as hydrogen and carbon monoxide, can be an indication of overheating or arcing within the transformer. Other gases, such as methane and ethane, can be produced by the breakdown of insulation materials.

DGA involves taking a sample of the transformer oil and analyzing it for the presence of these gases. The sample is usually taken from the top of the oil in the transformer, as this is where most of the gases collect. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for analysis using specialized equipment such as gas chromatography or Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.

By analyzing the gases present in the oil, DGA can provide information about the condition of the transformer and any potential issues that may need to be addressed. Regular DGA tests can help to identify problems early, allowing for preventative maintenance to be carried out before serious damage occurs.
