How to improve bdv of transformer oil:

 

1. Oil Filtration - Use a fine oil filtration system (less than 1 micron) to remove suspended particles and moisture. This can significantly improve BDV. Maintain proper oil cleanliness per ISO standards.

2. Oil Degassing - Use vacuum treatment to remove dissolved gases especially oxygen. Degassing improves dielectric strength. Proper oil temperature should be maintained during this process.

3. Oil Drying - Moisture content negatively impacts BDV. Reduce moisture below 10 ppm through hot oil filter process or molecular sieve drying. Check Karl Fischer titration values.

4. Additives - Adding oil soluble polar compounds can increase BDV. Popular additives are alkyl naphthalene and alkyl benzene. Ensure proper solubility and compatibility before use.

5. Blending - Mixing higher BDV oil with lower grade oils can elevate the mixture's dielectric strength. However, oil compatibility should be ensured.

6. Temperature Control - Maintain transformer oil temperature between 90-100°C for optimum viscosity and dielectric properties. Don't allow overheating.
